Introduction
The Ultra-wide-band (UWB) Technology allows the absolute localization in complex industrial environments. This allows the localization and tracking of persons, vehicles or arbitrary assets.
In this work, use cases for combining the UWB technology with the self-localization of an autonomous vehicle are investigated. For this, the different aspects of both localization methods are formulated and the performance of a fused localization approach is analysed.
In addition, various use-cases are elaborated and checked for feasibility.
As a result of the work selected use-cases are demonstrated in both simulation and on the shop floor, the implementation is done in Python or C++ using the ROS-Framework.

Contract developer for Rosbridge @ Foxglove
tl;dr; Foxglove is looking for a contract developer interested in improving Rosbridge for the entire ROS ecosystem.
Rosbridge facilitates building applications which talk to a ROS robot but are not part of the entire ROS graph; it is a widely used component in the ROS ecosystem. For Foxglove, Rosbridge is a popular connection option for users wanting to connect to their ROS system without the gotchas of multi-host ROS robots.
We’ve been active in the ROS WebTools working group for some time, and while we’ve been able to commit some engineer time towards Rosbridge development, it’s become clear to us and the group that more active development for the ROS1 and ROS2 versions of Rosbridge would benefit not only Foxglove but also the larger ROS community.

As a Robotics Software Engineer at Simbe Robotics you will be part of a talented team working on Tally – our fully autonomous mobile robots for retail inventory scanning.
In this role, you will be responsible for creating the software that drives Tally robots and implements their autonomy.
ABOUT THIS JOB
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining Tally’s onboard software using ROS and other open source packages.
- Working on mapping, localization, path planning, obstacle avoidance, perception, and autonomous behaviors for mobile robots in a retail environment. Our robots are designed to work safely and reliably alongside shoppers and employees during normal store hours.
- Building interfaces for managing and configuring our robot fleet and the data they generate.
- Interfacing with hardware that does not have an existing ROS driver.
- Helping to maintain open-source ROS packages with the broader ROS community and ensuring Simbe is helping to contribute to ROS.
ABOUT YOU
Requirements:
- Solid understanding of C++ and/or Python software development
- Comfortable working and developing in a Linux environment
- Well-versed in version control systems – specifically git
- Working understanding of core ROS concepts: publishers/subscribers, topics, services, parameter server, etc
Recommended:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 2+ years of commercial software development experience
- Extensive experience using ROS in real robots – ideally autonomous ground mobile robots
- Familiarity with the ROS navigation stack
- Experience with agile software development
- Experience with continuous integration and delivery
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure, etc)
- Experience with Docker containers

About the job:
As our Robotics Software Engineer, you will be responsible for further developing and maintaining the navigation and disinfection functionality of our robot. You will work on a variety of topics such as surface detection and smart route planning/optimalization. You will have a lot of room to make your mark on the product and will have the responsibility for the navigation and disinfection functionality of the robot. In this role you will work together with the rest of the software team (Front-end, Back-end) and our Hardware team.

Neobotix develops and produces autonomous mobile robots. Our portfolio contains generic robot vehicles as well as mobile manipulators and customized robots for very complex and demanding applications in research and production.
Customers all over the world and in a wide range of businesses are working with our mobile robots.
Your tasks
- Our robots can also be deployed with the Robot Operating System (ROS). We want to keep up to date by maintaining our ROS packages and integrating new features.
- Your internship starts with getting to know our robots and current ROS packages in detail.
- You will then evaluate new packages (localization, navigation, simulation, …) through practical tests on our demo units and help us decide which modules to replace or update.
- All updates need to be made available and tested in the Gazebo simulation packages for our robots.
- The internship at our site in Heilbronn should take at least three months, preferably six.
Your profile
- You are studying robotics, computer science, mechatronics, or a similar course in Germany and you are searching for a mandatory internship.
- Previous experience with ROS is a huge plus.
- You have programming knowledge in Python.
- You want to actively engage in the ROS community and in taking ROS forward.
- You have sufficient English language skills to document and discuss your work results.
